Add a Title

For me, radio has been an escape from reality, an open door to other places. When I was young there was the World Service of the BBC, which magically appeared late at night, after the shipping forecast, a handover and Lillibullero, an odd Purcell tune. What followed appeared and disappeared through short wave mush, changed every 15 minutes and represented the world in my mind. Short wave analogue did not sound great, it was chosen to avoid challenges of censorship, distance and spectrum scarcity, bouncing waves along the ionosphere. Radio has provided an intimate voice, individuals describing their lives in distant places, making connections. Perhaps the opposite of on-demand!

In 2020, Covid forced me to walk into my studio each day in a deserted central London, and to find strategies for coping with anxiety. Central to my survival was the creation of the 147Hz Club, with Nigel Heath and our friend, Tom Allom. 147Hz low D is a 2m wavelength, the distance we should all be apart, apologise for geekiness! In those weekly sessions many plans were hatched, new things that might become real. MWPR Music Without Prejudice Radio is now real, a genre-less radio station, providing doors that open to other places. Help us keep it new.
